Since 2002 LichtRouten Luedenscheid is an international platform focussing on the use of light in art and design. They show that space-related and context-specific exhibitions offer challenging contexts to present and to commission art and design works. Scattered site exhibitions in public space have become one of the approved media of art recognition, this is shown in the multiplication of the number of biennials on a worldwide scale. LichtRouten is part in a turn towards a discursive and diversified valuation of the continous transformation of the contemporary city. In the city of Luedenscheid they allow to address opacities and to attend particularities which do not easily accommodate themselves in the daily routines. As a multidisciplinary and participatory event they provide occasions of fruitful exchange, innovative tools and new ports for effective collaborations and alliances for urban and social developments. They are engaged in the collective imagination of a city environment. They embrace the idea to reflect the current developments, to transform realities and offer grounds for a new culture of public space.
In the exhibition program international artists and designers show their works. Guided tours introduce the relationship between the concept of the curators, Bettina Pelz und Tom Groll, the context of the location and the artworks. In an additional program discussions and workshops take place.
