Christian Breil + Andreas Ermisch

Christian Breil (architect) and Andreas Ermisch (designer) are lighting designers whose work involves classic lighting situations ranging from street lighting to lighting for castles, as well as including lighting for unusual spaces not encountered on a daily basis. The focus of their work is the relationship between light and manifestations of landscape, space and architecture.
Their primary material is artificial light. They utilise new technological principles and production tools along with intelligent lighting system control mechanisms to create efficient solutions that are sometimes simple and sometimes more complex. Their work is preceded by an analysis of existing lighting installations regarding their function, efficiency, sustainability and perception quality.

Their lighting solutions feature design aspects in direct interplay with visibility, security, visual comfort and conservation of the natural evening light. Their approach does not follow static concepts, instead developing and implementing such concepts as dynamics reflected and altered in the interdisciplinary dialogue between social culture and architecture as well as natural history and art history.

+ Background: Artificial lighting today accounts for some 19% of all electricity consumption around the world. This means that optimised lighting alone can prevent a significant portion of unnecessary CO2 emissions. Modernisation of an older lighting system generally results in a reduction of up to 30% in energy consumption and operational costs. The application of intelligent lighting management systems with presence detectors and dimming controls working in conjunction with daylight can generate savings of up to 70%.

LichtRouten Piece: Schützenhalle
The architecture of the Schützenhalle takes on the role of director in the staging for the exhibition. The lighting works in tandem with the shape of the building as well as with its function as a landmark and event venue.
